Grapefruit Oil

Originally from Asia, it is now cultivated in the USA, Brazil and Israel. Grapefruit is picked from a glossy-leaved tree, about 10 meters (30 feet) high, with white flowers and large, pale yellow fruit.

Grapefruit oil is extracted from Citrus paradisi (also known as Citrus racemosa and C. maxima var. racemosa) from the Rutaceae family and is also known as shaddock.  The oil glands are imbedded deep within the peel and yield a small amount of essential oil.  The main chemical components are a-pinene, sabinene, myrcene, limonene, geraniol, linalool, citronellal, decyl acetate, neryl acetate and terpinen-4-ol.

Grapefruit oil is great for fighting cellulite, and also wonderful in aiding the lymphatic system, but it does even more......it affects your mood and revives the mind, and it stimulates the digestive system.  Grapefruit is also good for clearing up congested oily skin and acne.
Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) has a fresh, citrus aroma that is energizing and uplifting. Rich in the powerful antioxidant d-limonene, it is nourishing to the skin. Like many coldpressed citrus oils, it is a popular oil to use in conjunction with weight management programs. Grapefruit may also be used to enhance the flavor of food and water.

PRECAUTIONS
Grapefruit oil is non-toxic, non-irritant, non-sensitizing and although listed as non-phototoxic, it can irritate the skin if exposed to strong sunlight after treatment.

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES
Some of the therapeutic properties of grapefruit oil are antidepressant, antiseptic, aperitif, diuretic, disinfectant, lymphatic stimulant, tonic and anti-infectious.
The key constituent in the Oil of Grapefruit is Limonene. It has antimoral properties, is an effective detoxifier, a diuretic, and fat dissolving. Studies show that the Limonene in particular, is effective for its ability to combat tumor growth.

Grapefruit has a rather sweet scent, on the zesty side and is very uplifting. Helpful for anxiety, reduces depression, and promotes relaxation. It gives one a very clean feeling when using it in an application, or putting drops in drinking water as an Aroma Drink.

If you are a coffee drinker: it is not advisable to drink caffeine beverages, apply the Grapefruit Oils and then go in the sun. Avoid going under sun lamps as well. Wait 24 hours and then apply the oil on location.

Another useful way to use the therapeutic oil of Grapefruit is for sanitation. Not only is it helpful to add drops in water to use in a spray bottle to clean counters in kitchen and bathroom but as a bath to clean vegetables. Get out a metal bowl, large enough for the fruit or vegetables you desire to sanitize. Add water, two or three drops of Grapefruit oil or so and let the vegetables sit for about 8 minutes or so. Move everything around in the bath to aid the removal of debris, aphids, environmental dust, etc. The bath also brings back the vitality of the plant. Fruits and vegetables retain their life force in the refrigerator for a longer period of time.
Grapefruit has a high vitamin C content and is therefore valuable to the immune system. It helps protect against colds and flu, has a very positive effect on obesity and also has diuretic properties, helping to remove excess water from the body and is therefore also great for treating cellulite.

It has an uplifting effect on the mood and helps with stress and depression. It is used with great success to combat muscle fatigue and stiffness while stimulating the lymphatic system and thereby clearing the body of toxins. It helps to clear congested oily skin and also assists with acne, while toning the skin and tissues. Grapefruit is used in hair care to promote hair growth.

This refreshing oil helps to boost digestion, benefits the immune system by helping to clear the lymphatic system, helps with skin problems, and can be used for muscle stiffness, water retention and for bolstering the nervous system.
